March-April 2006 Prayer letter

The “Porn Nation” event brought up much needed discussion about addictions and other things that don’t satisfy, but can only be met through the power of Christ’s love. The speaker, Michael Leahey, a former sex addict, has gone to over 60 campuses in the nation addressing students’ needs for love that can’t be satisfied through pornography. When our director first told us that “Porn Nation” was coming to UofO, our staff team was a little skeptical that anyone here would want to go. Boy, were we wrong. God moved despite our doubts. The enemy was quick to try to discourage, too. We had a whole bunch of planning strategies go wrong the first day of setting up, from miss scheduling, to advertising mishaps, and some of our staff taking it very personally. But through these unfortunate events, we as a staff team knew that we needed to beseech the Lord and ask for His favor upon us. From that point on we had the mindset that we were in a battle and it is God who was going to be our champion.

Duane, pictured below on right, admitted that it was very stretching for him to go and to talk with students. He added, “It was good for me though. I need to be in a place were I can trust the Lord to engage people who don’t have an opportunity to hear the Gospel."

One student, Nick, who lives in the same fraternity as a student of ours, had been going to our Greek ministry throughout the year. Nick heard the Gospel several different times but wasn’t ready to receive the message. He went to “Porn Nation” and listened to the message and prayed to receive Christ there. It confirmed to us that God is at work and that His word will not return void. God will continue to use us and we need to trust Him for His timing to change and transform people.

We are grateful for what God is doing here at UofO and we continue to pray with you for students’ lives to be changed by Christ. Thanks so much for partnering with us to affect this community (in an unconventional way) and the world for Christ!
