2008.04.25. Who cares what just happened, I've got the Lord! 1 Sam 30.6

1Sa 30:6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

Dispair, distress and worry can overcome a man and overtake him. David is the leader and he is responsible for letting this happen to his people. He could dwell on this and wallow in it, But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

David held fast to or clung or even encouraged himself unto God. I think of strengthening other people and encouraging others, but not too much of strengthening myself. It seems like it is this active choice of David to turn to God and not to this current happening.

Father, give me your courage and insight to turn unto you for my strength and not unto my circumstances. Amen.

2008.04.02. Go ahead, ask, see what He does. Judges 13

Jdg 13:8 Then Manoah prayed to the LORD and said, "O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born."
Judges 13:9 And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field.

"What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honor you?"
Jdg 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?"

Some things the Lord may answer toward what we ask. But as with the case of the angels name, it was not to be answered. Henry's commentary offers a little insight into it, in the fact that the angels were not to be worshiped. Manoah isn't told why he isn't given an answer, just told to make a sacrifice to the Lord.

We don't always have the insight to see why God does do something in that moment, it is only our part to inquire and see if God will answer us or not. But in any case we must be willing to accept what He gives us and more importantly trust Him that He knows whats best. Easy to say that after the fact than in the moment of course. But I believe it is the best way to live life.

Father give me your perspective and courage to always inquire of you. Being expectant to hear from you but trusting when you don't answer. Father may my life be unto you fully. Amen.
