2008.04.25. Who cares what just happened, I've got the Lord! 1 Sam 30.6

1Sa 30:6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

Dispair, distress and worry can overcome a man and overtake him. David is the leader and he is responsible for letting this happen to his people. He could dwell on this and wallow in it, But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

David held fast to or clung or even encouraged himself unto God. I think of strengthening other people and encouraging others, but not too much of strengthening myself. It seems like it is this active choice of David to turn to God and not to this current happening.

Father, give me your courage and insight to turn unto you for my strength and not unto my circumstances. Amen.

Good thought Droo. This is part of the challenge for those of us in Christian leadership. We spend much of our time strengthening, encouraging, and building up others; only to realize that we have neglected to do the same in our own lives.
